Sunday, October 22 is Harvest Sunday at St. John the Divine!

We've spent the past several weeks learning how to be a disciple in the likeness of Christ, and the part that generosity plays in our discipleship path. On Harvest Sunday we bring our pledges - estimates of our giving to the church in the coming year - to the altar to be blessed. As you finalize the next step on your giving journey, we encourage you to watch a message from our rector, Leigh Spruill on considering how we've been blessed by our relationship with God and one another and how that translates into expressing our joyful thanks by returning a portion of our blessings to his church.

You can bring your pledge card to any service on Harvest Sunday to be blessed, or turn in an 'I pledged' card if you have already pledged.

A New Slate of Adult Education Classes

We're following up our fall all-parish study with a full menu of adult education classes, starting this Sunday at 10:15 am. Subjects include a study of the Book of James from our lay adult ed faculty with small groups; a new Family Matters class 'The Bible is Weird and I Don't Know Anything' from the Rev. Neal McGowan; a study of Lamentations with parishioner Liz Wilder, a class on Malcolm Guite's book Lifting the Veil: Imagination and the Kingdom of God led by parishioner Rob Blain, and a new Discover Membership class that leads to confirmation. Listen to a message from the director of the SJD Teaching Center, Kira Moolman Pettit, check out the lineup, and make a plan to grow in your faith with your church family!
