Membership

Confirmation Wide

Wherever you are on your journey, St. John the Divine would love to be your spiritual home. There are three paths to membership: baptism, confirmation, or membership transfer or request.

Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God. We follow the practice of baptizing babies here, but you can also be baptized as an adult or record a previous baptism with us to be recognized as a baptized member of St. John the Divine.

Baptisms are conducted at Sunday worship services on or near the feast days of Easter and Pentecost in the spring and early summer, All Saint's Day in November, and the feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the first Sunday after Epiphany) in January.

To sign up for a baptism and baptism class, please contact Sally Lehmberg, life event coordinator. To record your baptism, please contact Kim Jameson, director of membership.

Confirmation is the season of study and then the ceremony by which maturing children or adults publicly affirm their baptismal covenant. The ceremony is officiated by a bishop (regional leader), who lays hands on and prays over each participant, connecting us to the church across time and space.

At SJD, we offer youth Confirmation classes during eighth grade. Adults seeking Confirmation may join our Discovery class, which is offered periodically throughout the year.

Contact Kim Jameson, the director of membership, for more information on the Discovery Class and Confirmation.

Anyone who is already baptized can also become a member by transferring their membership from another church or simply requesting to be registered as a member at St. John the Divine.

Contact Stephanie Cocke, parish records coordinator, about transferring your membership.
