Here's how you can get involved:
Fall Sunday school kicks off September 7.
We are looking for Sunday school volunteers to serve on Sundays from 10:15 to 11:10 am. No previous experience is necessary, training is provided, and the volunteer schedule can be flexible.
SJD Choristers provide a rich choral education for children aged 3 - grade 12.
The Second Annual Family Retreat will be held October 24-26. Make plans to attend.
Our children’s ministry assists families with children in 5th grade and younger by introducing the children to Jesus Christ, planting the seed of God’s Word into their hearts, modeling the love of Jesus through a team of caring volunteers, and nurturing and shepherding them into a lasting relationship with God.
Weekly options include:
Sunday School
We are focused on supporting every family, every parent, and every child. We want to partner with parents to help nurture their children’s faith. Our team of caring volunteers introduces children in 5th grade and younger to Jesus Christ, plants the seed of God’s Word in their hearts, models Jesus's love, and nurtures and shepherds them into a lasting relationship with God.
Nursery: 8:30 am — 12:30 pm

You may register your child before their first visit to the nursery or Sunday school or at check-in on Sunday morning.

Children's Ministry Staff
Holli Kight served as Director of Children’s Ministry at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church from 2008 to 2022. She brings a wealth of experience and deep knowledge to this vital ministry, along with a strong passion for children and the important role they play in the future of our church.
St. John the Divine has been a second home to ReBecca and her family. She has been blessed to have her four children baptized and confirmed in this parish. More importantly, they are all active members of this amazing community.
Luci is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and came to the United States as a nanny. She got her Associate in Teaching here in Houston and started working at SJD in 2006 as a Nursery Worker. She became the Nursery and Preschool Associate in 2018. She loves working with children because she believes they are angels sent by God to bring joy to our lives!
Tany is a native Houstonian and attended The Kinkaid School and The University of Texas at Austin. She was a buyer for a boutique clothing store and went on to be Director of Recruiting and assisted with marketing at Chamberlain, Hrdlicka law firm.
She has four grown children and one grandson. Tany spent many years as a “professional volunteer” with the Junior League of Houston and at her children’s schools, as well as with numerous non-profits in Houston and serving in board positions.
She began at SJD in the rector’s office and after many years of serving God and others who are in need through our Go Outreach ministry she is happily supporting our formation and family ministries.

Have questions about Sunday School? Join us August 17th in the Scout Room at 10:15 to learn all about your child’s Sunday School class. We will have information on all classes from nursery to grade 5 including info on how you can get involved.
Family Retreat
Oct 24, 2025 • 6:00pm
The St. John the Divine Family Retreat will be held at Tejas Camp and Retreat in Giddings, Texas. Retreat activities will be designed for families with younger children 3yrs-3rd grade and their younger/older siblings with childcare offered at certain times.
