Children's Ministry
Our children’s ministry assists families with children in 5th grade and younger by introducing the children to Jesus Christ, planting the seed of God’s Word into their hearts, modeling the love of Jesus through a team of caring volunteers, and nurturing and shepherding them into a lasting relationship with God.
Weekly options include:
Nursery: 8:30 am — 12:30 pm
- 2 months - age 2 — First floor
Sunday School: 10:15 — 11:10 am
- 2-year-olds — First floor
- Preschool/PreK — First floor
- Kinder-5th grade — Lower level
- Catechesis Level 1 & 2 — Lower level
You may register your child before their first visit to the nursery or Sunday school or register at check-in on Sunday morning. We ask that you please register for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in advance.
Family Lent Boxes are Back!
Observe a Holy Lent with your family using our fun, family faith experience - in a box. We will provide you with everything you need to explore the Parables with Jesus, the ultimate StoryMaker! This 6-week adventure includes original illustrations, Bible verses, scripts for interactive plays, discussion questions, fun facts, and coloring pages and crafts. Children 4 and up will each receive a beautiful StoryMakers *Zine.
Our kit will also include everything you need for a festive Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner to make at home with pancake mix, syrup, and Nutella, plue Mardi Gras beads, masks, and crowns to decorate, 40 days of scratch-off prayers, serving opportunities for kids and parents, and more!
*Our beautifully illustrated and interactive Zines provide space for reflection, creativity, and doodling. Zines are a place for a child to express their questions and discoveries as they explore the ancient stories of the Bible and faith in God.
Pick up your Family Lent Box on Sunday, February 4 or 11, across from the Parlor at our table in Sumners Hall. Registration is required and supplies are limited. Recommended ages 4 years - 5th grade.
Children's Ministry Staff
Deanna is a native Houstonian and devoted Longhorn with a BA in English & French. She began full-time ministry 22 years ago at SJD. Deanna is married to Bill and together they have three daughters, a married son and daughter-in-law with two children, and a Labrador Retriever. She enjoys buying more books than she can read, drinking the perfect cappuccino, spending time in the mountains, and having all her family under one roof whenever and wherever it works.
Luci is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and came to the United States as a nanny. She got her Associate in Teaching here in Houston and started working at SJD in 2006 as a Nursery Worker. She became the Nursery and Preschool Associate in 2018. She loves working with children because she believes they are angels sent by God to bring joy to our lives!
St. John the Divine has been a second home to ReBecca and her family. She has been blessed to have her four children baptized and confirmed in this parish. More importantly, they are all active members of this amazing community.
