A Light for the City

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” These are Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount and here at St. John the Divine, we want our lives to be set entirely on Jesus and his Cross.

We want to reflect the light of his resurrection and as we look to the future, I want to ask you this question: What would it look like if St. John the Divine truly became A Light for the City?

We would:

• Gather in Christ by welcoming new people into our community.
• Grow as Disciples together in the Christian faith.
• Go out into the city bearing the Gospel for the sake of others.

Our church is poised to move from strength to strength by achieving these goals:

1. To grow as a congregation that reflects the make-up  of the city of Houston and is united in the worship of Jesus Christ.
2. To welcome others to an inviting physical campus for the community and our St. John the Divine family.
3. To form Christians into the image of Jesus regardless of their age or where they are in their walk.
4. To equip every member of St. John the Divine to be an ambassador for Jesus.
5. To mentor young people as Christian leaders.
6. To nurture entrepreneurial Christian ministries that address the issues of employment, education, and housing among Houston’s most vulnerable young people.

I am thrilled to belong to a congregation of gifted and committed believers!  I am so optimistic about our future, and I am grateful for the gift of life we have together in Jesus. We are his ambassadors in our city and world! We long to follow God into our church’s next chapter.
