First Steps Montessori School is a ministry of St. John the Divine, located at 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, TX 77019. The school serves both Toddler and Early Childhood children in a multiage grouping, ranging in age from 18 months to 6 years. The Toddler Program consists of children between 18 months and 3 years of age while the Early Childhood classrooms consist of children ranging in age from 2.5 to 6 years. The Toddler program has a total class size of either 10 or 15 children depending on the specific class with a teacher/child ratio being 1:5. The Toddler program is 5 days a week from 8:15 am – 12:00 pm or 2:30 pm depending on your preference. The Early Childhood program has a 1:10 teacher/child ratio and is from 8:15 am – 12:15 pm or 2:30 pm depending on your preference.
Our school operates from September through mid-May, closing in the summer months. First Steps is closed on specified Holidays, Parent/Teacher Conference days, and certain Teacher Continuing Education days. You may request an application by calling 713.354.2267. Admission is based primarily on the date of application. Applications should be received when your child is under 12 months of age; however, you are welcome to apply at any time. Martha Butler, Director of Business Operations, is available between 7:30 am – 2:30 pm.
