April 7 and 14: Go Forth for the City: The Church Jesus Calls and Sends
On Sundays we often end our services with the call to “Go in peace, to love and serve the Lord!” Join our rector, the Rev. Dr. Leigh Spruill, as he teaches on how all Christians are called to serve Jesus by loving his world and, particularly, the city of Houston. This will be the beginning of a five-week series where we explore together what Christian mission looks like in everyday life.
April 21: An Interview with the Bishop of Kondoa, Tanzania
Last fall, Bishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon and the Rev. Trent Pettit traveled to Tanzania as part of SJD’s ongoing initiative to support and connect with the global church. This Sunday, the Bishop of Kondoa, one of the seven districts of Tanzania, will be visiting us in Houston! Join Bishop Josiah and the Rev. Trent Pettit as they interview Bishop Given Gaula about the church in Tanzania.
April 28: Local Mission Fair
As part of our ongoing focus on mission, this Sunday will host a mission fair in Sumners Hall, showcasing local mission and non-profit organizations (AKA our “community partners”). There will be booths representing many of our community partners, with opportunities to learn about how to get involved in local mission!
May 5: A Lighted Path Presentation
A Lighted Path is a new nonprofit started by parishioners from St. John the Divine in 2023. This umbrella organization seeks to be an incubator for leaders to activate their communities for the good of Houston’s youth, with three current initiatives: Adults in Training, Loving Lamar, and Strong Start. Join us in the HLC at 10:15 to learn more about A Lighted Path and how you might get involved!
