Observing the Season of Advent in Our Sunday Traditional Services

The season of Advent marks the beginning of the liturgical year and a time of reflection and preparation for the celebration of Christ's birth at Christmas. Our 9 am and 11:15 am traditional worship services will observe Advent in special ways.
A wreath with candles, one for each Sunday in Advent, is placed next to the altar. We begin our traditional services in the Church with the singing of O Come, O Come Emmanuel, during which time the appropriate candles are lit by one of our families.
We will also sing different service music during this season, including the “Trisagion” (Holy, Holy, Holy) instead of the “Gloria” and an “Agnus Dei” (Lamb of God) at the Fraction. Additionally, the flowers around the altar are replaced by simple greenery.
