Walking the Way of the King

Walking the Way of the King
Led by SJD clergy, with guest speaker Collin Cornell (May 17)
Sundays, April 12 – May 17 (no class on May 10)
10:15 am in the Hall Life Center

Jesus’ call to “make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19) is not an isolated command—it is the culmination of the whole Gospel story. Throughout his ministry, Jesus forms a people who share his life, bear his light, and participate in his mission.

To walk in the way of the King is to be drawn into that mission: rooted in Scripture, empowered by the Spirit, and sent into the world God loves. Each week, we will reflect on Jesus’ words of commissioning and consider what it means for us, as a church, to bear witness to his ways and participate in his presence in Houston today.

About Collin Cornell:
Dr. Collin Cornell is assistant professor of Bible and mission at the Houston, TX campus of Fuller Theological Seminary.

The Sending of the Spirit in the Pentateuch
God's sending work in the New Testament confirms and intensifies the commission at the heart of the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible). Although Christians tend to emphasize the first chapters of Genesis (Creation, Fall, Flood, etc), the centerpiece of these opening books is the Tabernacle: the sanctuary God commanded the Israelites to build so that God could dwell among them. This talk explores the rationale of the Tabernacle and the role of the Holy Spirit in making the world (Genesis 1), remaking the world (Genesis 8), and filling the craftsmen who make the Tabernacle (Exodus 31; 35).
