Our Favorite Heresies
June 15 - July 20
10:15 am, Hall Life Center
Since the beginning of the church, Christians have debated what counts as our theological truths. What are the ground rules? What are the absolutes? What is not up for debate? As these debates continued, heresies cropped up and were then stamped out, only to crop up elsewhere again later. Even today, these heresies continue to tempt us. If you have ever heard someone compare the God of the Old Testament to the God of the New Testament, as if they were completely different beings, for example, you have heard one of the oldest heresies. But as you can imagine, these heresies do not come out of nowhere. Join Dr. Kira Moolman Pettit as she unpacks a few of the heresies that we continue to be wooed by, generation after generation, and what we miss by falling into these ancient heresies. What keeps us grounded in God’s truth, and how do we discern fact from fiction, orthodoxy from heresy?
