Nehemiah Neighborhood Center
Our Mission
The Nehemiah Center’s mission is to provide assistance to low-income families who are invested in seeking a better future for their children through education, emotional wellness and spiritual enrichment.
Our motto is “Neighbors helping neighbors create a safe haven in which children are motivated, inspired and equipped to realize their God-given potential”.
At the Nehemiah Center, our mentors and tutors are more than volunteers - they are role models, encouragers, and catalysts for change. When you invest your time in a child’s growth, you help shape their story and plant seeds of hope that will grow for years to come. Whether your gift is reading stories with animation, solving math problems with patience, painting vibrant masterpieces, kicking a soccer ball, speaking another language, or simply offering a listening ear and warm smile, we welcome you. Join us in building up the next generation of leaders by becoming a volunteer.
From eager pre-kindergarteners to ambitious high school students preparing for college, there are countless opportunities to mentor, tutor, and connect.
Some ways to serve:
Read books aloud and help children build early English skills.
Practice sight words and beginning letter sounds.
Engage in sensory play while building reading and math skills in the different stations within the classroom.
Support the classroom teacher with daily hands-on activities.
We welcome workshops like Girl Scouts, Eagle Scouts or individual programming that offer things like STEM tutorials, media and creative works and much more!
Businesses, Young Professional Groups, Teams, and more are welcome to plan group service projects. Example Activities include playground cleanup, painting projects, group activities with students, Fall Festival, Spring Festival, Parent Education, Christmas Gifts for families (Nehemiah Elves), etc...
