A New Chapter for SJD Pickleball

What began more than four years ago as a Saturday morning pickleball gathering has grown into a thriving ministry. Nearly 200 people have joined us on the courts over the years, and our weekly play has expanded from four to six hours, with Friday afternoon play added along the way.
Beginning Saturday, July 18, we're excited to take another step forward by welcoming members of Chinese Baptist Church to use our courts from 8:30–10:30 am each Saturday. Open play for everyone will be from 10:30 am–3 pm. This partnership is one more way we can live into our mission of being A Light for the City by sharing our campus with another faith community.
As part of this partnership, Eugene Leong, a respected pickleball instructor, will offer lessons at St. John the Divine for players who are just getting started or who want to improve their skills. Classes will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2–3:30 pm in the Hall Life Center. Each session includes two consecutive Sundays, costs $25, and is limited to 10 participants per skill level. Proceeds will help fund upgrades to our pickleball equipment.

With eight years of teaching experience, Eugene will help players build confidence, improve technique, and enjoy one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Cost: $25 per two-session series. Limited to 10 players per series.
