Going into the fall, the vision was simple. Provide a space for our neighbors at Lamar High School one afternoon a week, offering a simple snack and a place to hang out. This ministry has blossomed as we welcomed an increasing number of students to our campus, first with snow cones, then popcorn, and, as the weather allegedly grew colder, hot chocolate.
This steady rhythm offering hospitality and connection not only feeds hungry students but also builds bridges right across the street. It’s a living expression being A Light for the City: meeting people where they are with kindness, consistency, and compassion.

As we begin 2026, we’re dreaming about what’s next: perhaps an after-school homework space, a welcoming place to wait for a ride, or new ways to remind our Lamar neighbors that they are seen, known, and loved.
Thank you to all who serve each week. Your faith in action is helping St. John the Divine live out the call to love our city like Jesus, one snack at a time.
