Stewardship 2026

Giving here is not an act of duty or obligation. It is joy. It is worship. It is also fun—because as a part of this family we have opportunities to actively participate in the gathering, growing, and going. In doing so, we see our gifts of treasure, time, and talent come to life.

— Eileen & Chris Hairell, parishioners

Each fall, our Stewardship campaign fuels the mission and ministries of St. John the Divine. It’s part of how we continue to be a place to GATHER, GROW, and GO for Houston and beyond. Our 2026 campaign invites us to live fully awake to God’s love and fully alive in generosity. Together, we can shine as A Light for the City.

Supporting the HEART of our Church

Every Sunday, St. John the Divine comes alive with worship, music, fellowship, and formation. Together, we experience God’s love through Scripture, sacrament, and community, and your generosity makes it possible. Your gifts awaken hearts and sustain our community and ministries — here is a snapshot from last year.

GATHER In Christ:

  • Our average weekly attendance is increasing! Over 850 people (a 9% increase from 2023) gather weekly to lift their hearts and worship God.
  • Over 90 children and youth sing in our SJD Choristers program while learning what it means to fully participate in worship.

GROW as disciples:

  • Over 70 youth gather for weekly programming and are growing in their knowledge and love of Christ together.
  • Each Sunday, over 80 children through grade 5 are learning about God's love for all people, including themselves.

GO and serve:

  • Our campus shines brightly with the light of Christ when 175 English as a Second Language students come together in community each week.
  • 328 parishioners have stepped out in faith and served local community partners this year, embodying our mission to be A Light for the City.

Giving Path for Website

It is God's intention that we grow more generous and take bigger steps in our giving as we become more aware of how richly God has blessed us in Christ. Each step you take on the giving path is a spiritual response to God's goodness and blessings in our lives.

We make an annual pledge to St. John the Divine as an expression of faith and also to support the church's activities. Like all members here, our family benefits from the vast resources the church offers, from worship services to Vacation Bible School. We recognize how much it costs to operate St. John the Divine and also how much joy it brings to our family; we're happy to play a part in giving back and supporting such a special place that touches each member of our family in a different way.

2025 Budgeted Expenses

Did You Know? When you pledge to St. John the Divine, your gifts shine as a light for our city and the world. In fact, 10% of every dollar you give immediately goes to support local and global missions that feed the hungry, serve the needy, and support families. In 2025, $703,000 in Go Grant funds supported 34 community and nonprofit partners, shining the beacon of Christ's love and light.

A pledge is your financial commitment to give to St. John the Divine over the coming year. It provides the foundation for our annual budget and helps us plan faithfully for worship, ministry, and outreach.

Stewardship means wisely caring for something that belongs to someone else. The Bible calls us stewards of God’s creation. Everything belongs to God, not us.

Pledging is both practical and spiritual. Practically, it allows St. John the Divine to plan responsibly. Spiritually, it is an act of faith and gratitude, and a way of responding to God’s blessings in your life.

A pledge is a promise made in advance. While one-time gifts are deeply appreciated, pledges make it possible for the church to prepare for the year ahead, ensuring ministries are sustained week by week.

One hundred percent of our budget is funded by parishioners. Pledges allow us to plan with confidence for ministry in the coming year.

Money belongs to God, so for Christians, money is not secret or “off limits.” Jesus talked about it a lot. We don’t engage in high-pressure talks, but we always strive to be transparent and open about how our members’ giving supports the ministry of our church.
